Strengths: Stunning HD picture, very good SD picture, beautiful high gloss black frame
Weaknesses: Mediocre sound
Overall Evaluation: Before following the 1080p herd, compare the Samsung 5054’s picture quality, from your expected viewing distance, to that of the 1080p model you are considering. You will likely be pleasantly surprised to find that the 5054’s picture quality is comparable to, if not better than, its 1080p competition, at an incomparably affordable price.

Strengths: Nice picture for 720P set; great value.
Weaknesses: Bad image retention problems; can’t directly select input source.
Overall Evaluation: This set has been recently discounted and is available at a great price through both online and B&M vendors. It has a great picture for a 720P set; from my viewing distance of 10′, it looks excellent after tweaking (check avsforum for proper settings, esp. right after purchase). It does have bad image retention problems, but they go away with time & care (turn down from torch mode as soon as you set it up). I use this set primarily for Xbox 360 (Call of Duty 4) and it is perfect for that use.

Samsung FP-T5084

The Samsung FP-T5084 features full HD 1080p resolution and the innovative Ultra FilterBright anti-glare filter. You’ll get impressive color and sharpness, with its 18-bit color processing and amazing 15,000:1 contrast ratio.

Samsung FP-T5084 Popular Reviews:
cnet reviewed the Samsung FP-T5084 and gave out”The good: Reproduces a deep level of black; offers clean image with little noise or false contouring; provides plenty of picture controls, including user-adjustable grayscale; has a sleek, extra-wide look. The bad: Somewhat nonlinear grayscale; some false contouring; ho-hum standard-def processing; less-effective glare-reducing screen. The bottom line: With accurate color and deep black levels, the Samsung FP-T5084 50-inch plasma’s picture stands up well against some tough competition.”

pcworld reviewed the Samsung FP-T5084 and gave out”It’s not the most cutting-edge or full-featured HDTV set, but the Samsung FP-T5084 scored high overall because it is inexpensive, well designed, and a solid performer.”

bought this TV with the Peerless wall mount package deal- both were great purchases. The television is mounted on a wall above a fireplace, and installation and hook-up was very easy. The TV comes on a stand, which can be easily disconnected for wall mounting.

Had this set for a couple of weeks before getting the HD digital cable box- don’t expect this set to perform up to its standards by inputting a pour signal. The HD channels look great, and DVD’s are even better (Denon DVD player, with upconvert feature to 1080i- getting 1080p soon). Picture settings can be found all over the internet, but they obviously depend on your room, viewing angle and distance, etc. The ‘dynamic’ setting works great for sports, but I use ’standard’ for most other programs.

The TV itself looks really good with the sleek black outline. The speakers are on the side of the unit, and for my small townhome living room, they work fine. I use a Denon home theater system for most movie viewings, but the standard set sound is fine for most programs. I researched LCD’s vs. Plasmas for months before finally deciding on this unit, and at less than $2000, I don’t think there’s a better set on the market.

I bought this SAmsung plasma TV as it was one of the recommended HDTVs[...]. And I am defintely not disappointed. The colors looks unbelievably clear and will grab your attention when watching DVDs. The ability to hang the wall just makes this TV look even better. It has every connection you could want, with 3 HDMI including one on the side for easy access.
I have not had any problem with glare, and my living room is brightly lit. It does make a curious beeping noise when powering on or off, but nothing excessive. Standard progressive DVDs look sharp and colorful. My PS3 also bring out the best in the TV with BluRay movies. One of the unique features of this Samsung model is the speakers being moved to the side. It make th TV less tall, but wider. The speakers work in giving a clear, loud, big sound. It’s not surround by any means, but having the speakers on the side of the TV (invisible to the eye) allow for plenty of listening space for everyone in your living room.
The price continues to come down on this TV, so be patient.

Samsung LN40A550 40-inch

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

Samsung’s 550 Series is a perfect way to step up to Full HD 1080p resolution. A fast 5 ms response rate produces smooth-motion scenes for sports and action movies, and a dynamic contrast ratio of 30,000:1 makes for deep blacks and crisp lines (15,000:1 in 32-inch and 37-inch models).

After much research, purchasing the LN-T4069F, returning the LN-T4069F, and determined to buy for the future, I happened upon this new model just introduced by Samsung. A month ago, I was insistent on purchasing a 120HZ, and without actually experiencing it, did so, much to my chagrin. The picture was jumpy, and the “aura” created by the technology disregards that sweet “space” between viewer and TV. I turned the 120HZ off most of the time, and, with no malice toward Samsung, the option is a huge waste of $500.00, unless you really like being on the set with the actors (try it and you’ll see what I mean), or watch alot of sports. That said, I needed a 40″ that would fit into a certain space (no side speakers) and I also came to realize that a higher contrast ratio and response time were probably the most important factors contributing to a bright, smooth, beautiful picture. (I had the opportunity to compare one of Samsung’s 10,000:1 CR right next to a 30,000:1 at the store…whew!) Granted, “contrast ratio” is different numbers to different manufacturers, but when Samsung ups the ante and raises the price a bit, it’s worth it(the higher end LN40A650 has even more CR and RT, but was over my price cap, has that ghastly 120HZ option, and a distracting reddish border running the top and bottom bezel of the frame itself). As for the 5mS response time, I haven’t really deciphered it yet, and it’s close enough to the 4mS that will probably be industry standard before long. Lastly, I would suspect (I’m not a tech) that Samsung’s DNIe engine is responsible for the upconversion of the standard definition TV signal, that creates a really rich, HD-like SD picture.

In my shopping for a TV of course I had to swing by the local Best Buy and asked some questions. Not working on commission they generally just answer your questions without pushing you into the bigger or better… They had only good things to say about Samsung and all of their TV’s.

And for good reason!

This TV is incredibly clear with everything and fun to play with. I hooked up my wife’s laptop just for fun, because it has a video in, and that picture was amazing. I finally got an HD-DVR cable box and it the picture is so incredibly clear.

The sound is even better than the picture quality. I found with many TV’s now they will put great effort in the screen, but forget about the speakers… Not with Samsung. These speakers sing incredibly and greatly enhance the picture you are watching.

Everything is very easy to set up, and the control is very comfortable. The options are every user friendly. The only bad thing is that I have not figured out how to get the picture-in-picture to work with my cable box.

Very satisfied with this purchase, it is well worth the few dollars and hopefully years of great entertainment.

Well we got this DVD player as part of a special offer when we bought Samsung HDTV. It has awesome sleek black look and it really looks nice with the HDTV. Remote control provided is sleek and stylish too. I have not tried or researched lot of upconverting DVD players so I dont have whole lot to compare with. As for the features, regular DVD’s look good. Only thing I really wish this DVD player lacks is an USB port to play movies/songs/pictures. Overall I would say the best part about this DVD player is good performance and stylish, sleek and black looks.

It’s a decent upconverting DVD player. I got this product for free after purchasing the Samsung LNT5265. I really can’t tell the difference in picture quality between 480, 720, 1080i, and 1080p. They all seem pretty sharp to me. I use an HMDI cable. I love the Anynet feature on this device compatible with my Samsung LCD TV. My only real complaint is the slow reponse on the remote to the tv.
